Indonesia has named an evangelical Christian as the new national police chief, marking the first time in nearly 50 years that a member of the religious minority has held the post in the Muslim-majority nation.
According to UCA News, Commissioner General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, 52, was sworn in on Jan. 27 as police chief, succeeding Gen. Idham Azis who retired on Feb.1. A Protestant, Listyo is the first Christian to hold the post in nearly 50 years and only the third since Indonesia declared independence in August 1945.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The police is conducting a thorough investigation into the alleged involvement of 12 police officers in a case of drug abuse in Bandung, West Java.

A Christian to head the Indonesian National Police

After more than 40 years, a Christian has been appointed as head of the Indonesian National Police. General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who was sworn in today at a ceremony led by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, replaces General Idham Azis, who has retired.
Prabowo, a 51-year-old Protestant, was promoted to the top post of the police after heading the Criminal Investigation Agency (
Bareskrim).
He was President Jokowi’s only candidate, and his appointment was unanimously approved on January 20 by the People's Representative Council, Indonesia’s lower house of parliament.
The super policeman also received the support of leading Muslim organisations and Islamic clerics in Banten, the province bordering the capital known for its religious conservatism, where he led the local police.

JAKARTA: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was administered the second shot of Sinovac’s Covid-19 vaccine at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Before being given the vaccine’s second dose, the president got his vital signs checked, akin to the protocol followed before his first coronavirus vaccine injection on January 13.
“After the first vaccination on January 13, two weeks ago, today, I got the second shot of the vaccine. Similar to the first one two weeks ago, I did not feel anything. Only some muscle aches after two hours, and I can engage in normal activities,” Jokowi remarked after receiving his second vaccine injection.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo inaugurated Listyo Sigit Prabowo as the National Police chief at the State Palace, here on Wednesday, to replace General Idham Azis, due to retire in early February of 2021.
The head of state also promoted Prabowo to the rank of general from commissioner general based on Presidential Decree Number 7/Polri/2021 dated January 27, 2021.
