Walgreens to Change COVID Vaccine Scheduler for Some Second Doses After Complaints

Updated 60 mins ago
NBCUniversal Media, LLC
Walgreens on Monday said it planned to change the COVID vaccine scheduler on its website following complaints that the pharmacy wasn't adhering to federal health officials' recommended timeline for some second doses.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that the two doses for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine be spaced three weeks, or 21 days, apart. That timeframe is shorter than the recommended space between the two doses of Moderna's vaccine, which is 28 days or one month.

Chicago COVID vaccine today: Pullman site administering 1K vaccinations to residents over 40 Tuesday

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A COVID vaccination site in the Pullman neighborhood is administering 1,000 vaccines to residents over the age of 40 on Tuesday.
Residents in the 9th Ward got a robocall from their alderman alerting them about this site and they were able to sign up on a link over the web. All of the appointments filled up fast.
The Far South Side has been hit hard by COVID-19. Until now Arnita Rainey couldn't find anywhere to go.
"Well before this came available, I wasn't able to even get an appointment," Rainey said. "I tried at like Advocate and they wouldn't give me an appointment because they say you have to be over 65."

Walgreens Acknowledges Glitch With COVID Vaccine Scheduler Website, Third in as Many Weeks

"We are committed to honoring vaccination appointments that have been scheduled in our system, and our team members are reaching out to all patients affected to attempt to accommodate them," the company continued. "If supply does not allow us to vaccinate some of these patients, we will prioritize them for appointments as additional vaccine inventory is available. We apologize for the inconvenience."
The company did not respond to multiple requests on how many people the glitch impacted, though hundreds of members of the "Chicago Vaccine Hunters" Facebook group posted and commented that they were experiencing that same issue.
Users have repeatedly complained about the Walgreens appointment sign-up process, some on social media calling the latest glitch "a mess" and "so frustrating."

Cook County to Open 20K First-Dose COVID Vaccination Appointments Friday – NBC Chicago

Des Plaines (Pfizer, the week of March 15)
All vaccinations are by appointment only, health officials noted, with proof of eligibility in Phases 1A or 1B. The appointments can be made online at vaccine.cookcountyil.gov or by calling (833) 308-1988.
Previously, the Des Plaines location was administering Johnson & Johnson vaccine doses, but the county said due to limited supply, the location will instead be provided with the Pfizer vaccine for the week of March 15.
Those who receive vaccines through the Cook County sites will book their second-dose appointments the same day as their first-dose appointments.
The sites are part of several mass vaccination locations in Illinois. Currently, there are 22 statewide. Here's a full list.

City Responds To Confusion Over Booking Appointments For Second Doses at United Center

She told NBC 5 the process was smooth and easy, but when she asked about booking an appointment for the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine they told her this.
“I should be getting an email letting me know my next dose,” she said. “I haven’t received an email so it’s a little nerve wrecking wondering like if I’m going to get it or if there’s an issue— if I’m going to have to try to find another appointment for the second dose.”
Others like Dan Gonzales also in the same boat.
“They told me 12 hours so I figured 6:30 this morning was 12 hours— I didn’t receive nothing,” said Gonzales.
