Late-night blaze razes home in West Manheim Township

No one was injured after a blaze ripped through a West Manheim Township home just before midnight Wednesday on Impounding Dam Road, according to fire officials.

Along with the significant head-start of the fire, firefighters also faced difficulties due to hoarding conditions within the house, according to Clousher. 
With those and significant fire damage, a contractor with a backhoe was called to pull apart the rubble so that firefighters could soak it down and prevent flare-ups, Clousher said.
The cause of the fire was not immediately apparent, he said, and a Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal was called in from Chester County to investigate. According to Clousher, the home is a total loss.
Without nearby fire hydrants, firefighters used a tanker task force to shuttle water to the scene from a hydrant on Fairview Avenue near the YMCA, Clousher said.
