In an interview with People, Jill confirmed the corsage was a surprise from President
Joe Biden and is actually part of a longstanding tradition the two started on Valentine's Day years ago.
"I love gardenias, and so Joe would buy me a wrist corsage of gardenias," Jill said. "It's just a tradition. He surprised me with it."
"I was surprised that people actually saw it on my wrist," she continued. "I guess with a zoom lens you see everything."

"I think it's important, and Jill does the same thing, to let each other know no matter how much time has gone by," Joe Biden added, before placing his hand over his heart. "She goes down the steps and it still goes a little boom, boom, boom, boom. For real."

El Paso Represented in Virtual "Parade Across America"

The inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris look a little bit different than inaugurations of the past. For one, no crowds were allowed. Aside from major political lawmakers- no gatherings were allowed. The traditional inaugural parade wasn't an option this year due to both the current pandemic and security fears. However, a virtual "Parade Across America" was thrown in honor of the incoming President and Vice President.
The virtual celebration included artists, dancers, drum lines, singers and athletes from across the United States. The Parade Across America was hosted by Tony Goldwyn, and the names in the lineup included Jon Stewart, Earth, Wind & Fire, figure skaters, Olympians, at least one skateboarder, representatives of every branch of the military, a wheelchair basketball program, and the newly reunited New Radicals performing their hit "You Get What You Give".

FBI bulletin: Armed protests planned in all 50 states between now and Inauguration Day

Pierre Thomas has more on a warning from the FBI about possible armed protests planned in all 50 states over the next 10 days.
Ed Farrell, the former Deputy US Marshal in Chicago, said regular law enforcement will need National Guard backup at some locations.
"There's obviously a big effort to stop and deter these actors before they become operational, which is going to be big," Farrell said. "They're going to be gathering intelligence on these individuals, they will be surveilling these individuals. And if they're able to get probable cause to arrest them, I would imagine you're going to see some arrests of bad actors. Additionally, I think you're going to see an elevated security presence at all government facilities, they're going to limit access to the buildings, they're going to put up barricades, they're going to close doors. Things to prevent people from coming in during this elevated risk time."

Workers remove what's left of the inaugural ceremonies in Washington D.C. on Thursday, Jan. 21.

It wasn’t exactly the fall of the Berlin Wall, but on Thursday, Jan. 21, workers in Washington, D.C. began disassembling the miles of fence girdling the core of the federal district that kept Americans literally and figuratively separated from their government during the inauguration.
Not as significant as the Iron Curtain, no – if only because of its longevity – but still, in a nation where the citizenry generally feels safe generationally, the gulf between the guards and the guarded hadn’t been greater in some time.

DC dispatch: Jan. 20

Ahhh, there it is! There’s the D.C. we all remember.
The last two days offered little more than empty streets and a conspicuous lack of pedestrians all across the District, but on Jan. 20, just prior to the start of the Biden/Harris administration, some of the usual sights and sounds from the D.C. of old finally began to emerge.
Sure, it was still relatively benign, what with the COVID and the insurrection still looming over everything, but at least there was this old guy standing near the Capitol blowing a flag-draped shofar horn. Were it any other inauguration, there may have been perhaps ten more just like him.
