The fair will be held from February 27 to March 2 and aims to bring together all stakeholders including buyers, sellers, students, teachers, designers etc on a virtual platform to create sustainable linkages and encourage dialogue for the overall development of the industry, according to the Prime Minister's Office.

In his Mann ki Baat address in August 2020, the Prime Minister had said that toys not only augment activity, but also give flight to aspirations," read the press release by Prime Minister's Office.

NEW DELHI: Highlighting the salient features of 'Indian toys', Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that Indian toys not only entertain children but also help kids initiate into the world of scientific theories.
" Lattu (spinning top) teaches us gravity and balance, gullel (slingshot) teaches us potential and kinetic energy," said PM Modi inaugurating the virtual India Toy Fair 2021 via video conference.
The PM said that a jhunjhuna (rattle) helps a newborn feel the circular motion.
"Puzzle toys develop strategic thinking and problem-solving. Similarly, newborns begin to feel the circular movement by playing with 'jhunjhuna'," said the PM.
Interacting with toymakers from across the country, the PM said that the display of toys reminds him of his childhood days.

New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked the toy manufacturers to use less plastic and more eco-friendly material, in addition, to focus on innovation.
Inaugurating the first India Toy Fair 2021, PM Modi said, "We have to become Aatmanirbhar in the toy sector and also cater to the global market."
He regretted that India's share in the USD 100 billion global toy market is very less, and about 85 per cent of the toys sold in the country are imported.
"We need to promote hand-made in India," he said.
The Prime Minister also interacted with traditional toy makers from Chennapatnam, Varanasi and Jaipur and exhorted them to innovate and make traditional toys more relevant keeping in view the changing taste of children.

Addressing the video conferencing event, Prime Minister Modi called for bringing out the hidden potential of the toy industry in India and to create an identity for it as a big part of the campaign for AatmaNibhar Bharat. 
He added, "This first toy fair is not just a business or economic event. This program is a link to strengthen the country's age-old culture of sports and cheer."

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday appealed to the toy industries in the country to use less plastic to manufacture toys. Speaking after inaugurating the India Toy Fair 2021, the Prime Minister stressed on the need to use raw materials while making toys so that these can be recycled.
"Today, I would also like to appeal to the toy manufacturers of the country to make toys that are better for both ecology and psychology. Can we try to use less plastic in toys? Use things that can recycle," Modi said.

Govt launches website for 'India Toy Fair - 2021'
The website for India Toy Fair - 2021, the country's first such event to be held virtually from February 27 to March 2, was jointly launched on Thursday by Union ministers Smriti Irani, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, and Piyush Goyal. At the launch event, Women and Child Development Minister Irani said, "We are making efforts to empower and strengthen the toy industry in our country under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill the dream of Aatmanirbhar Bharat."
She added that with this initiative, the government intends to connect the children with toys and sports.
