President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hinted at a likely revision to the country’s Internet law -- Law No 11 of 2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) -- especially to correct articles open to multiple interpretations.
“If its implementation leads to injustice, the law needs to be revised,” Jokowi had tweeted on Feb 15, 2021.
The ITE law essentially regulates the exchange of information and other electronic transactions. It enunciates what is banned on the internet. However, some critics view that its defamation article had been misused to criminalize certain parties, thereby not boding well with the freedom of expression.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Muhammadiyah Secretary General Abdul Mu'ti urged Indonesia's government to maintain public justice and fairness in enforcing law against mass organizations by not solely demonstrating its tough and unbending opposition to the Islam Defenders Front (FPI).
"Enforce law and justice upon all," Mu'ti noted in his Instagram direct message that ANTARA quoted in Jakarta on Thursday while speaking in connection with the government's decision to ban FPI's activities in any form.
The government must adopt a fair approach because if it bans all activities of FPI owing to the absence or expiry of its organizational registration permit, the organization has automatically become non-existent or illegal.

The government bans FPI's activities and will stop each activity that it will conduct since it no longer has a legal standing either as a mass organization or ordinary organization.
