Rail corridor recognised as national priority project

THE Ipswich to Springfield rail corridor has been recognised by the Federal Government’s independent infrastructure advisor as one of Australia’s top priority projects.
The public transport corridor has been added to Infrastructure Australia’s 2021 Infrastructure Priority List as the council seeks federal funding to progress the next stage of planning.
It is one of 44 new proposals added to the list, which makes up a $59 billion pipeline of investments ready for delivery.
Chair Julieanne Alroe said the projects included were “nationally significant priorities” for governments to progress to support the nation’s economic recovery from COVID-19. ....

New renewable energy zones and dispatchable energy storage infrastructure have been added to an influential government list of high priority infrastructure priorities, recognised for their importance in a post-Covid Australian economy.
The 2021 Infrastructure Priority List, published by the federal government agency Infrastructure Australia, has seen a number of projects focused on the clean energy transition listed as high priority initiatives.
The latest edition of the list, published on Friday, sees the creation of new renewable energy zones, the addition of dispatchable energy storage resources and investments in new hydrogen export infrastructure as key priorities for Australia over the coming decades. ....

NSW Farmers is disappointed by Infrastructure Australia’s update to the national Infrastructure Priority List, which downplays the major role regional areas can make in a COVID-19 recovery.
NSW Farmers President James Jackson said the contribution of agriculture and regional communities to state and national economies can no longer be an afterthought, especially given the exponential growth of regional areas over the last year.
“Regional NSW makes up 40 percent of the state’s economy and generates one third of its total gross production. Agriculture alone adds just under $15.7 billion in economic output, of which a third is exported,” Mr Jackson said. ....

The Australian Government has welcomed today’s release of Infrastructure Australia’s (IA) 2021 update to its Infrastructure Priority List, showcasing the Government’s commitment to deliver nation-defining infrastructure while helping inform future investment priorities for all levels of government.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Priority List seamlessly couples with Australia’s infrastructure-led economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Priority List drew on 124 new submissions received since the last edition’s release in August 2020, highlighting a $59 billion pipeline of investments for nationally significant priorities across a range of sectors including transport, energy, water, communications, housing and education,” the Deputy Prime Minister said. ....
