A bush fire was started by youths at the East End Skatepark on Monday afternoon. (File pic) Youths started a bush fire at a New Plymouth skatepark and then bolted the scene on Monday. One fire crew attended the three-metre by three-metre fire at East End Skatepark around 3.25pm. New Plymouth senior station officer Nick Hackling said witnesses confirmed a group of youths had started the fire. “They then absconded,” he said. The fire was initially put out by people near the scene who had a fire extinguisher handy. Fire and Emergency New Zealand then worked to dampen down the hotspots.
The calls come amid a worsening trans-tasman stoush over Australia's decision to cancel her citizenship.
