After Protests, LG Invites DDC Members For Meeting On Mar 12

According to the news agency KNO, the protesting DDC members, who hit the streets for a second consecutive day in Jammu today, have been invited for a meeting with the LG scheduled on Friday.
The DDC members assembled outside Press Club Jammu today and held a protest on a second straight day to oppose the government order over their status and honorarium.
Irfan Panditpuri, DDC Chairperson from Kupwara said that they have received an invitation for a meeting with LG Manoj Sinha in Jammu. “The meeting is scheduled on March 12,” he said.

The exit of the People’s Conference has seemingly left the PAGD adrift. The five-party alliance including big players like National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party have not met for nearly two months now.
Seemingly, the PAGD is disinterested in the elections to the chairpersons and vice-chairpersons which they have lost in six out of 13 where they had the mandate when results were declared on December 22 last year. The alliance also hasn’t appointed a new official spokesperson since Sajad Gani Lone left.

The JKPC’s win came three weeks after the party quit the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) – a grouping of regional parties led by National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah formed in October last year to fight for the restoration of statehood and special status of J&K. Lone was the spokesman of the PAGD.

The Gupkar alliance, an amalgam of five political parties, on Monday witnessed a further slide in the election for the District Development Council (DDC) Chairman posts in the Kashmir Valley despite the numbers, while the BJP won Udhampur and Doda districts in the Jammu region.
Officials said independent candidate Nazir Ahmad Khan, who quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest against the Gupkar alliance’s joint candidate from the National Conference (NC), was declared the winner from Budgam in central Kashmir, despite the alliance having around 10 votes out of 14 sub-district segments.

Peoples Conference man elected Kupwara DDC chairperson with Apni Party support | India News

SRINAGAR: Sajjad Lone’s Peoples Conference, which has five members in the Kupwara district development council (DDC), managed on Monday to get the post of Kupwara DDC chairperson with the support of three Apni Party members and two others despite four NC members abstaining from voting.
Apart from Apni Party support, PC’s Irfan Panditpuri received the backing of one Awami Ittehad Party member and one Independent candidate, officials said.
“The party was hopeful that three other members would remain absent and force the authorities to adjourn the election due to lack of quorum, but they turned up,” NC insiders said.

SRINAGAR, Feb 8: The National Conference which has eight District Development Council (DDC) members in Budgam lost the chairmanship to an Independent candidate while Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) stayed away from the election meetings in North Kashmir today fearing cross voting. The Peoples Conference candidate was elected as chairman in Kupwara.

In Budgam, the PAGD despite having majority of 10 DDC members with NC having eight lost the chairmanship of the DDC to an independent candidate, Nazir Ahmad Khan.
