Last month, the government issued an advisory to all social media intermediaries, to ensure compliance with the existing IT rules and specifically target the growing concerns around misinformation via deepfakes.
MoS IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said the government had earlier made it clear to social media and online platforms that if its advisory on deepfake is not fully adhered to, new IT rules would follow.
