Farmers have been under serial attacks in all Southwest states, mainly Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo, fuelling fear of acute food shortage if the state governments do not intervene proactively, THISDAY has learnt.
Across the geo-political zone, findings revealed, farmers are abandoning their farmsteads, plantations, orchards and processing factories amid the increasing spate of armed invasion, kidnapping and destruction of farmland by herdsmen.
Oyo, for instance, has become the epicentre of banditry and kidnappings with over 30 persons, especially farmers abducted at different agrarian communities in Ibadan, Fiditi and Ibarapaland Local Government Areas (LGAs).

There is no respite for residents of Yewaland in Ogun State as rampaging nomadic Fulani herdsmen continue to maul them on their home soil. Consequently, many of the residents have fled to neighbouring Pobe in Benin Republic.
The number of Yewa villagers taking refuge at a makeshift Internally Displaced Persons camp located at Pobe in Benin Republic continues to increase day after day as Fulani herdsmen unleash fresh terror on residents of Yewaland.
Some villagers in villages in Yewaland such as Oha, Asa, Igbooro, Ibeku, Moro, Agbon-Ojodu among others have since fled their homes in Ogun State as the atrocious acts of the marauding herdsmen grew.

My wife and I ran away to the Eegelu community in Benin Republic when killer herdsmen started invading our homes, killing and burning houses,” said Abiodun Abikale, one of the Ogun villagers who fled to Benin Republic.
Some villagers in villages in Yewaland such as Oha, Asa, Igbooro, Ibeku, Moro, Agbon-Ojodu among others fled their homes in Ogun State when marauding killer herdsmen unleashed terror on the areas, killing, maiming and destroying farms with cows.
Another Ogun resident whose wife was delivered of a baby in Benin Republic while taking refuge in the country after fleeing the state due to killings by the herdsmen, Monday Odu, said they left during the bedlam between farmers and herders in the Yewa-North Local Government Area of the state.

Tolu Odebiyi, the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has called for an investigation into the alleged harassment of his constituents by soldiers and Fulani herdsmen.
The Street Journal, in an earlier post, reported that Fulani herdsmen allegedly engaged the services of some soldiers to beat up farmers in some communities in Yewa land in Ogun State, for stopping their cattle from grazing over their farmland.
The Senator expressed displeasure at the incessant cases of harassment and brutalization caused by herders in Yewa land.
Odebiyi, in a statement by his media office on Saturday, therefore, demanded that a thorough investigation be carried out on the matter without further delay.
