It still rings in my ears, the sound of victory when the former President of FIFA, Sepp Blatter, announced South Africa as the hosts of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Immediately, South Africa had many friends as the impossible became possible.
Around 6 November 2020, Dr Jordaan, the SAFA President hatched the idea that South Africa must contest the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Presidency. The question was, WHO should be nominated to contest the presidency. Having been exposed to the shenanigans on the continent, his own name was a consideration but not an option. Dr Jordaan then touted the idea of Dr Patrice Motsepe as a possible candidate. Dr Motsepe’s name was put forward and the majority of the National Executive Committee (NEC) agreed to make him the official nominated candidate for the CAF presidency. But first, Dr Motsepe had to agree to the nomination. Dr Jordaan was dispatched to sell the idea to Dr Motsepe. Initially Dr Motsepe wasn’t comfortable but eventually agreed.

(CAJ News) – WHAT initially started as the fiercest race for the presidency of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has evolved into a peace treaty among the candidates vying for the position.
This is anticipated to result in unity among the rivals and the betterment of the beautiful game in the largest confederation affiliated to the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).
The race that was initially among four candidates thus could culminate in South African businessman and club owner, Patrice Motsepe, emerging as the new CAF president.
The elections for the presidency are set for Rabat, Morocco on March 12.

YAOUNDE, Cameroon, February 7, 2021/ -- The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) might have provisionally suspended his ban by the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) but Ahmad Ahmad is not out of the woods yet in his bid to regain the presidency of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
He thus faces a race against time with polls scheduled for next month in Rabat, Morocco.
The Madagascan official, found guilty by FIFA for financial misconduct and banned him for five years last November, still barbours ambitions of a return to CAF’s highest office.

Caf clears Ahmad for presidential elections

Ahmad subsequently appealed the decision of the world governing body at the Court of Arbitration for Sport and got a temporary respite last month.
Cas restored the Malagasy to his post as president of Caf and explained a final decision will be taken before the Caf elections.
Following the ruling, Caf's Governance Committee met to deliberate on the matter and cleared Ahmad to contest the presidential elections.
“The decision rendered on November 19, 2020, by the judging Chamber of the Ethics Commission of the Fifa, prohibiting Mr Ahmad Ahmad from exercising any activity related to football at the national and international level for five years, having been suspended by decision of January 29, 2021, of the Cas, the candidate Ahmad Ahmad is now declared eligible for the post of president of Caf,” read a statement from Caf's Governance Committee.

Chiyangwa Backs Motsepe For CAF Presidency

THE Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) president Philip Chiyangwa says all the members of the regional body have resolved to back South African billionaire and Mamelodi Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe for the coveted CAF presidency.
Initially, Chiyangwa backed Ahmad Ahmad’s bid to get re-elected but the incumbent’s campaign suffered a major blow after he was banned from the sport for five years for financial misconduct by FIFA and subsequently barred from seeking re-election.
With Motsepe having announced his intention to run for the March 2021 CAF elections and now having been given the all-clear by FIFA’s ethics committee Tuesday, COSAFA’s leadership convened a virtual meeting Wednesday after which they resolved to back the South African businessman.
