How Covid-19 has changed turned Victoria's justice system

Crooks have been tuning into video hearings since Covid broke out last year
Video links had been used only as a last resort in Victorian courts before now
While the links allow rapid turnover of cases, they are often reduced to a farce
The links have been used by villains to threaten and intimidate witnesses
Many crooks stream in without actually identifying themselves to the court
Legal insiders believe the links have dangerously denigrated the court system

Mechanic acquitted of murdering baby boy Jaidyn Leskie granted bail for a second time

A mechanic acquitted of murdering one-year-old boy Jaidyn Leskie has been granted bail again despite going on the run and failing to show his face in court for the second time.
In a sign of Victoria's Covid-plagued justice system, Greg Domaszewicz appeared in a Melbourne court on Tuesday without actually showing up or making any indication to the presiding magistrate he was even present.
Domaszewicz was aged 28 on June 14, 1997 when Jaidyn went missing from his care in Newborough, in Victoria's Latrobe Valley.

'Television is capable of ripping you apart,' says Liz Hayes

Having spent 25 years on the road for the critically acclaimed news program
60 Minutes, journalist Liz Hayes easily projects an aura of self-assurance. When the cameras stop rolling, she concedes, that is not always the case.
“I’ve reached a point where I do know I’m good enough, but I continually ask myself whether I’m doing a good enough job,” Hayes says. “It took me ages to get there because I didn’t come with a bucket load of confidence. I’ve never been that person who can say openly, I’ve got it. That’s not me.
