Jakarta seeks to open more cemeteries amid Covid-19 grave crisis; over 12,000 cases on Sunday (Jan 31), total now at 1.078 million


JAKARTA, Jan. 31 The Jakarta Post/ANN): The Jakarta administration is planning to open 17,900 new graves for Covid-19 victims in six locations after recording a recent increase in the number of burials in the past few weeks.
The administration will launch four cemetery expansion projects and open two new plots that will provide the city with 101,100 square meters of land—an area equivalent to around 14 soccer fields—for coronavirus victims.
The Covid-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 12,001 within one day to 1,078,314, with the death toll adding by 270 to 29,998, the health ministry said on Sunday (Jan 31).
According to the ministry, 10,719 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 873,221.
