April 19, 2021
Bengaluru, Apr 19: Due to surge in Covid-19 cases, the Karnataka government proposes to postpone elections to Zilla and Taluk Panchayats in the State.
Speaking to newsmen Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa told presspersons here on Monday that the issue will be discussed in the Cabinet and a decision would be conveyed to the Karnataka State Election Commission.
The elections were held to 30 ZPs and 175 TPs in 2016. The government had postponed elections to gram panchayats for 5-6 months last year following the pandemic.
The Minister said there was general consensus among the department officials on postponing polls to ZPs and TPs owing to a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases. The Sunrisers have thus lost their first three games of the competition, the first time that they've been off to such a poor start.
Chasing 151, SRH were off to a flying start with skipper David Warner (37; 34b, 2x6, 2x4) and Jonny Bairstow (43; 22b, 4x6, 3x4) racing to 67 in just 44 balls before the Mumbai Indians bounced back by getting both the openers.

MI vs SRH IPL 2021 Live Score Match 9: Kieron Pollard cameo lifts Mumbai to 150

Sunrisers Hyderabad need 151 to get off the mark
How costly is that Vijay Shankar dropped catch going to prove? Mumbai Indians would have lost Kieron Pollard for 18 had Shankar managed to take the easy catch at deep mid-wicket in the 19th over. Pollard hurt Sunrisers, hitting 35, including 17 runs in the final over.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will depend heavily once again on their openers, Jonny Bairstow and David Warner. They need a solid start, considering the inexperienced middle-order and the sluggish wicket.

IPL 2021: Rahul Chahar, Boult shine as Mumbai Indians beat SRH by 13 runs
By: ANI
Chennai: Pacer Trent Boult and spinner Rahul Chahar both picked three wickets each as Mumbai Indians registered an easy win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.
Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma played knocks of 40 and 32, but SRH managed to maintain a stranglehold as Mumbai Indians were restricted to 150/5. In response, SRH was bundled out for 137 despite a flying start given by Jonny Bairstow. SRH needed 47 runs in the last five overs and Vijay Shankar whacked back to back sixes in Krunal Pandya's third over to reduce the gap. But SRH was again put on the back foot when they lost two wickets in the 18th over and the team's hopes were finally down when Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Shankar with 17 required off seven balls.

Mark Boucher says door is open for AB de Villiers to return to Proteas side for T20 World Cup
Share
JOHANNESBURG – Proteas head coach Mark Boucher confirmed on Thursday that the door remained open for AB de Villiers to return to the Proteas line-up for the T20 World Cup later this year in India.
Although De Villiers has officially retired from international cricket, there have been a number of overtures made to him in the last 12 months, about possibly making a return to South Africa’s T20 side. After the World Cup was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic, De Villiers had a re-think about his international status and said last year, he was open to making a return with the T20 World Cup as a target.

BCCI announced annual player retainership for the year 2020-21 the other day. The senior men of Team India are divided into four categories and the payment structure will depend on the category a player falls in. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah were mentioned in the A+ category.
A total of 10 players were included in the A category. Five players are mentioned in the B category and 10 players were named in the C category. After the list was out, there was a mixed response from fans. Many of them opined that Ravindra Jadeja should have been mentioned in the A+ category. Some others fans opined that the BCCI should have given contracts to young players like Natarajan, Ishan Kishan, and Surya Kumar Yadav.

IPL gives you money and fame, but nothing beats playing for India: Kartik Tyagi

After seeing some of his fellow net bowlers being called to the big stage in Australia, young Indian pacer Kartik Tyagi is hoping for a similar chance to show his mettle. One of the stars of the U-19 World Cup in South Africa in 2020, Kartik is yet to make a breakthrough in the senior men’s squad.
Tyagi was chosen as one of the net bowlers when India toured Australia in 2020, after the 20-year-old’s performance in the previous edition of the IPL impressed selectors. Although Tyagi picked only 9 wickets in the 10 matches he played, his scalps included Shane Watson, Shreyas Iyer, Quinton de Kock, Virat Kohli, Shimron Hetmyer and Jonny Bairstow. His short-pitched deliveries to heckle Jadeja and Dhoni was also praised by cricket pundits. “Bowling very fast has always been a huge motivation for me but if you can bowl fast with accuracy then only you can be very effective in T20,” says Tyagi speaking exclusively to Moneycontrol.com.

Chennai, April 16 : Mumbai Indians bowling coach Shane Bond has termed leg-spinner Rahul Chahar as a wicket-taking bowler. The 21-year-old picked four wickets for 27 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders as he ran through their top-order, dismissing the first four batsmen including captain Eoin Morgan and opener Shubman Gill.
Mumbai Indians, who have a top-level pace battery, featuring the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult, are looking to use Chahar as a wicket-taking option.
"Rahul's (Chahar) a wicket-taking bowler. You make him bowl those balls that are too good. His role is to come into the middle and spin the ball and create some pressure and take wickets. That is the role we look to make him do," said Mumbai Indians bowling coach Shane Bond while answering questions from the media.

Kolkata Knight Riders batsmen committed hara-kiri at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday night, going down to Mumbai Indians by 10 runs as their chase of a paltry 153 ended at 142/7. It was a match for the KKR to lose after bowling out the rivals for only 152, but they threw their wickets away rather unnecessarily to hand over the tie to the defending champions on a platter.
Early wickets were the key when it came to defending such a low total, but it was MI’s death bowling, a period in which they picked up three wickets for 20 runs, that sealed the tie in their favour. Spinner Rahul Chahar did the maximum damage, claiming 4/27.

New Delhi, April 14 : India's World Cup winning former captain Kapil Dev is back playing golf after recovering from a cardiac surgery that he underwent in October 2020.
The 1983 World Cup-winner, who had held the world record for most Test wickets at one point in time, has been watching cricket only occasionally these days. However, he is excited to see the depth in Indian fast bowling reserves and has advice for "great talent" Hardik Pandya.
"It is great. I never expected 20-30 years back that we can have so many fast bowlers, and a fast bowler who can be the top bowler of the world. You can say they are some of the best in the world -- (Jasprit) Bumrah, (Mohammed) Shami and Bhuvneshwar (Kumar). I think it is great," Kapil, 62, told IANS as he played nine holes at Delhi Golf Club to raise funds for surgeries of poor children with congenital heart defects.
