By Jeff Yoder Finally playing in their first game of the season Thursday, it took the Lone Tree girls a few minutes to find a rhythm offensively. After Maddie Jacque ended the early field goal drought with a steal and a 3-point play, the shots started falling. The Lady Lions finished the first quarter on a 16-2 run and went on to a 49-17 win over Tri-County in the season opener. “We definitely looked like a ball team that just hadn't played in a while," Lone Tree coach Ryan Shelman said. "We're going to find our stride, we're going to figure it out.”

By Jeff Yoder The regular season tip-off finally arrived at Highland on Tuesday, bringing Louisa-Muscatine and Class 2A’s second-leading scorer to the Huskie gymnasium. With 24 points, Falcon senior Kylee Sanders finished slightly below her season average of 29 points per game, but it was still enough for L-M to leave with a 59-33 victory. After a missed shot, a steal, another missed shot, and an offensive rebound, finally a Tristan Stokes layup pulled the Huskies within 31-29 with an 8-1 run. Seconds later, they were back down by five as the Falcons beat the buzzer with a 3-pointer. Despite missing two weeks of practice, the Huskies were ready to go for the season opener, collecting three straight pins and a 24-0 lead over Van Buren after a forfeit at 106.    Easton Schlabaugh, Bryce Thompson, and Jack Peiffer each won by fall in a perfect start for the Huskies.
