Doctors thank nurses through song at Northwestern Medicine

Doctors at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield put down their medical instruments and picked up musical instruments to thank nurses and other support staff with an outdoor concert on Friday, May 12.

Rockin' Docs: Central DuPage Hospital physicians perform concert for staff

When Northwestern Medicine surgeon Anthony F. Altimari, M.D., feels stressed, he picks up his guitar and starts strumming. He has encouraged other physician musicians, or "rockin' docs," to do the same at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.

Illinois COVID: 25-year-old coronavirus patient at Central DuPage Hospital cheats death 3 times

DUPAGE COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) -- Jason Barbosa met the doctor who saved his life for the first time Monday.
In fact, the last time Dr Jeffrey Huml treated Barbosa, he was unconscious; COVID-19 forced him into a coma for six weeks.
Barbosa said his entire body shut down and the virus nearly killed him on several occasions.
"They told my family to say goodbye to me three times. They told them they were gonna disconnect me," he said.
But Barbosa survived and is on the long road to recovery.
"I am amazed. This is truly a miracle," said Dr. Huml of Northwestern Medicine.

For some reason, you got another chance. It's the first time Jason Barboza has met the doctor who saved his life. The last time Dr Jeffrey Hummel treated Barbosa, he was unconscious. Covid, 19, forced him into a coma for six weeks. He says his entire body, shut down in the virus, nearly killed him on several occasions. They killed my family to say come by to me three times because they weren't going to disconnect me. But he survived and is now on the long road to recovery. I am amazed at how wonderful he looks, just amazed. It's truly a miracle. While Barbosa has some relatives here, his immediate family, his wife, two Children and parents are all in Mexico, so they were unable to visit him for the nearly four months he was in central DuPage Hospital. Thank you. He's 25 years old, had no pre existing health concerns, and his doctor says his case should serve as a warning. Young people need to take this very seriously. Also, every day in our intensive care unit, people are dying from the virus. Barbosa was released last August, but he still has to check in at the hospital frequently. While he deals with the after effects of the virus, he's hoping to get the vaccine as soon as he can and hoping to see his family. When I woke up, it was the first thing that came to my mind, like wanting to survive, wanting, being positive, to be able to be there for them.
