Editor of The Mercury, Jenna Cairney, says Premier Peter Gutwein has done "amazingly well" in the polls despite the skepticism the incumbent leader faced when popular premier Will Hodgman resigned.
"We always suspected his coronavirus response to the pandemic would play out well with voters but we had a former premier in Will Hodgman that was a very popular, very charismatic man," she said.
"We've got Peter Gutwein whose got a bit of a rougher edge about him - some would call him a bit of a clenched fist, but now he's resonating with voters in the north.
