AMMAN — The holy month of Ramadan begins on Tuesday in Jordan, Grand Mufti Abdulkarim Khasawneh announced on Monday, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.Khasawneh said that the crescent moon (hilal) of the new lunar month was spotted in Jordan on Monday, which makes Tuesday the first day of Ramadan, during which Muslims observe dawn-to-dusk fasting, Petra reported.

ACC exports down by 19.7% in Q1 2021

AMMAN — The government’s decision to allow worshippers to attend Fajr and Maghrib prayers in mosques during the holy month of Ramadan drew positive reactions from the public.
Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Khasawneh on Sunday issued Circular No. 29 of 2021, based on the provisions of Defence Order No. 19 of 2020, which allows public movement on foot for 30 minutes to perform Fajr and Maghrib prayers in mosques during Ramadan, provided that they abide by the health protocols.

AMMAN — US Ambassador to Jordan Henry T. Wooster and the Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini on Monday visited the UNRWA Baqaa Health Centre, located north of Amman. 
The Director of UNRWA Affairs in Jordan Marta Lorenzo and Director General of the Department of Palestinian Affairs Rafiq Khirfan, accompanied them on the visit that comes on the heels of the US announcement last week on the resumption of support to UNRWA, according to a statement from the UN agency.

AMMAN —  Kristalina Georgieva, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), on Monday extended greetings to Jordan on the state’s centennial anniversary.
“On behalf of the International Monetary Fund, I congratulate His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Jordanian people on the Centenary Anniversary of the founding of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. I also wish them Ramadan Mubarak, an IMF statement quoted her as saying.
“I just had a very constructive discussion today with Jordanian Finance Minister Mohamad Al-Ississ and Central Bank of Jordan Governor Ziad Fariz. I commended them on the strong reform progress made under the IMF-supported programme, despite the significant challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.
