The next Alekhine? Chess prodigy Nouri rules stacked Balinas tilt

Young FIDE Master Alekhine Nouri stunned Grandmaster Banjo Barcenilla, GM Mark Paragua and the rest of the stacked field to emerge victorious in the GM and Attorney Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. online bullet chess online tournament held via Lichess.org on Monday, March 1.
The 15-year-old Nouri, who was named after Russian-French world champion Alexander Alekhine, amassed 144 points in 65 games to win the 585-strong tourney held as part of the 108th birthday celebration of the late Rosendo Padilla Balinas Sr.
Nouri, who became the youngest FM in the world at the age of seven back in 2013, came through with a whopping 63 percent win rate and performance rating of 2698.

Chess prodigy Arca wins Battle of Sharp Kids Diamonds Arena

Christian Gian Karlo Arca, the country’s youngest Arena Grandmaster (AGM) at 11 years old, conquered the Battle of Sharp Kids Diamonds Arena Under-18 online chess tournament held via Lichess.org last Monday, Feb. 22.
The pride of Panabo City, Davao Del Norte racked up 36 Arena points to beat the 73 other young woodpushers who joined this event backed by Bayanihan Chess Club founding chairman Antonio “Uncle Paps” Balinas and US-based frontliner Dr. Joe Balinas as well as board of directors Jimmy Reyes, Ernie Faeldonia and Rhina Mallari Aristorenas.
“It’s hard to explain what I’m feeling right now. Winning the Battle of Sharp Kids Diamonds Arena Under-18 online chess tournament meant so much to me,” said Arca, whose local and international campaign is supported by Atty. Jong Guevarra.
