CONCERNS have been raised at the amount of dog mess on the pavements in Cardigan. The road from Theatr Mwldan up past the health centre at Rhodfa’r Felin was highlighted by Cllr Elaine Evans at a meeting of the town council. “I have been walking up there on a morning and it is really bad,” said Cllr Evans, who has also raised the issue with Ceredigion County Council. “I know other councils such as Liverpool have used spray paint on the pavements to try to encourage people to pick up after their dogs. “It may deter people a bit more, because honestly its awful in and around the pavements in town, and it spoils it for responsible dog owners and pedestrians. How do other councillors feel about doing that?”
A DECISION on converting a Cardigan house contaminated by a petrol leak from an underground pipe was deferred at the last minute when it was realised a council committee was not quorate. Cardigan county councillor John Adams-Lewis had called for the development control committee to defer an application by the local authority to convert Norwood, on Morgan Street, into two flats for temporary, move-on or supported accommodation until environmental health and legal matters were resolved. A roll call had been carried out to check there were enough councillors present for valid proceedings – with the required 11 still in attendance towards the end of three and half hour meeting – but when it came to the vote one member abstained having missed some of the discussion.
WELSH Water is investing £3.7m in a scheme to combat flooding in Cardigan – but town councillors are keen to take more practical steps to help beleaguered residents in the short term. A new sewer pipe, pumping station and kiosk at Morgan Street will look to reduce the risk of flooding that has affected many properties in the Gloster Row/St Mary Street/Church Street area of the town. A Welsh Water spokesperson said: “We are planning to invest £3.7 million to reduce the risk of sewer flooding in Cardigan town. “This work, subject to approval, will involve installing a new sewer pipe, pumping station, kiosk and overflow. We hope this work will begin later in 2021 and expect it to take around 10 months to complete.
