The Consumers protection court has issued an order restraining Multichoice Nigeria Limited from implementing the DSTV and GOTv subscription prices hike it announced last week.   The three-member panel of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) sitting in Abuja, presided over by Saratu Shafii, issued the order on Monday.    The interim order was sequel to an ex-parte motion filed before the court by Ejiro Awaritoma, counsel to the applicant, Festus Onifade.  

  A human rights activist, Francis Nwapa, has called on the Nigerian government to stop MultiChoice from the incessant increment of its subscription rates for GoTv and DStv packages in Nigeria. SaharaReporters had reported that the management of Multichoice Nigeria announced a fresh hike in the subscription rates for its DStv and GOtv packages, barely four months after the previous fee adjustment.

Pay-TV operator, Multichoice Nigeria Limited, has again increased the prices of its DStv and GOtv packages across board with effect from May 1, 2024.

The Nigerian government on Thursday said it would review the recent price increases in Multi-Choice cable subscriptions to ensure subscribers in Nigeria get value for their money. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Acting CEO, Adamu Abdullahi, made this known during an interview on Channels TV on its Abuja programme on Thursday.
