Qld man convicted of grooming 14-year-old back before court

A Kingaroy man previously sentenced for grooming a 14-year-old girl found himself back before the district court for breaching his recognisance order.
Jon Faulkner, 27, pleaded guilty to breaching the order, which was handed down on August 19 last year in relation to two commonwealth offences committed in 2019.
Reading from the sentencing statements, Judge Glen Cash QC said the sentence imposed upon Faulkner related to him using "telephone services or internet services to groom a child and to solicit child pornography material".
"Those are pretty serious offences, as you would understand from the sentences that were imposed by Judge Kefford on that occasion last year," Judge Cash said.

Of the seven Republicans who voted to convict former President Donald Trump, only Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) is up for reelection in 2022. But a new Alaska election system with an open primary and ranked-choice voting may protect the incumbent.
Murkowski voted to convict the former president on Feb. 13 for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection. Murkowski told reporters after her vote that she stands by her decision regardless of its possible detrimental effects on her 2022 chances.
“This was consequential on many levels, but I cannot allow the significance of my vote to be devalued by whether or not I feel that this is helpful for my political ambitions,” Murkowski said.

JUNEAU — Republican officials in at least five Alaska state House districts have approved resolutions censuring U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, and many of those officials said they believe the state party also will consider a resolution denouncing her.
The resolutions are at least partially motivated by Murkowski’s support for the impeachment of President Donald Trump, but several sponsors expressed wider discontent with the senator.
The districts’ actions set up a collision course with the state Republican Party organization, where chairman Glenn Clary has supported a “big tent” approach to party membership.
“If we’re going to win this game, if you will, or win at politics and maintain our freedoms … then we’re going to have to band together and not splinter ourselves,” he said during a Jan. 26 talk radio interview.

Alaska Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski became the latest to face a local censure for voting to convict Donald Trump during his second impeachment trial, leaving just Susan Collins of Maine and Mitt Romney of Utah to be the only GOP lawmakers left unpunished.
During the trial, Murkowski, Collins and Romney joined Senators Richard Burr (R-NC), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Ben Sasse (R-NE) and Pat Toomey (R-PA) along with all 48 Democrats and two independents in finding Trump guilty of inciting the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
