Amid a taxi strike, the City of Cape Town’s JP Smith says they won’t submit to a call by Santaco to halt vehicle impoundments.

Traffic officers in Cape Town opened fire, wounding a suspect in the leg, when a taxi driver and his passenger “became riotous” and attacked them after being stopped for disobeying a red traffic light on Wednesday.
Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith, said that gangsters would keep committing crime because they knew they could get away with it, even if they were caught.
At least 14 people were killed, seven of them children, in fire-related incidents at the weekend in Cape Town.
