UZ Student Who Called For Mnangagwa's Ouster Denied Bail

By Ndatenda Njanike
UNIVERSITY of Zimbabwe student Allan Moyo was Thursday denied bail by High Court judge, Justice David Foroma.
Moyo (23), a leader of the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU), is facing a charge of incitement to commit public violence and was arrested on 7 December 2020 before he was denied bail at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts.
The state alleged Moyo, on July 3 2020, incited commuters at Copacabana bus terminus in central Harare telling them the time to stage a revolt against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration was ripe because he had failed as a leader, and was destroying the lives of the people of Zimbabwe.

MARYLAND —
A High Court judge has granted arrested journalist Hopewell Chin’ono ZWL$20,000 bail following his two-week detention at Chikurubi Prison on charges of publishing or communicating falsehoods.
According to the Media Institute of Southern Africa Zimbabwe, Justice Foroma ordered Chin’ono to surrender his title deeds, report twice a week at the nearest police station and reside in Chisipite until the finalization of the case.

Chin’ono has been languishing in remand prison for 20 days on charges of violating a section of the law that was expunged from the statutes by the country’s highest court.
One of his lawyers, Job Sikhala, who is also the national deputy chairperson of the main opposition Movement for Democratic Change Alliance party, is still in jail awaiting his bail appeal ruling set for Monday.
Chin’ono, Sikhala and another top opposition official, Fadzayi Mahere, were arrested earlier this month after they allegedly posted messages on their social media accounts that authorities say were tantamount to “publishing or communicating falsehoods prejudicial to the state”. Mahere has since been released on bail.
