Greg Adams e-Race the Stigma 5K is Saturday in Adrian

The 2022 e-Race the Stigma 5K is named in memory of Greg Adams, who was one of Lenawee County's leading advocates for mental health services.

Stanford researchers implant microchip in paralyzed man to communicate

“We had no idea someone who had never moved his hands for 10 years, if you asked him to write, what his brain would do,” Willett said. “It shows these fine dexterous (movements) still evoke rich patterns of brain activity that we can use.”
In the future, researchers hope the technology could be adapted to allow people who can't talk to simulate conversation through writing.
“While handwriting can approach 20 words per minute, we tend to speak around 125 words per minute, and this is another exciting direction that complements handwriting,” said Krishna Shenoy, professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University.
However, more work needs to be done before the study’s results can be successfully transferred into real-world applications such as a tablet, smartphone or computer.

If you read last Tuesday's newsletter, you'll know that I, Sara Moniuszko, got my first COVID-19 vaccine dose last week.
Going into the vaccine appointment I had
a lot of mixed emotions: hope and relief, but also anxiety.
Hospitals and medical appointments always make me nervous and needles freak me out.
So if you're someone who also struggles with this,
I hope you can find comfort in knowing I made it through!
I won't reassure you by saying I didn't feel anything – because if I'm being honest, I did feel it a bit – but I can truly say it didn't hurt more than a pinch.
