While others learned to make sourdough bread and do TikTok dances, Toronto resident Kaya Kristina's quarantine activity was to start an eatery — for dogs.
It's called StarPups Café.
Kristina lives next to High Park, a popular park in the Toronto area. Six years ago, she noticed that many dogs returning from a trip to High Park looked tired and thirsty, so she began leaving a bowl of water on the front yard of her house for the thirsty canines.

Neighbors Appreciate Canadian Woman's Bistro For Dogs

NOEL KING, HOST:
Toronto has plenty of good restaurants for humans. Now, though, there is an option for dogs - StarPups Cafe. Here's how it started. Kaya Kristina used to leave a bowl of water on her lawn for thirsty dogs.
KAYA KRISTINA: I started getting little notes in my mailbox saying, like, thank you so much. Our dog appreciates it so much.
STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:
When the pandemic started, Kristina offered more - dog biscuits, beef liver bites, a treat of the day. Now, Kristina is not a morning person but wakes every day at 8 to stock the cafe.

A good samaritan who was simply trying to bring joy to pups and their owners during lockdown has been left gutted after someone stole everything from the front lawn dog cafe she'd set up for thirsty pets in her neighbourhood.
Kaya Kristina's pit stop for pooches on Indian Road Crescent has been offering up fresh water, sticks and tasty gourmet treats for those on their way to and from nearby High Park, and has quite understandably become a huge hit in the community during the months it's been operating.

A local woman is encouraging neighbourhood dogs to visit her front yard with a set up on par with Toronto's top cafes.
Kaya Kristina lives on Indian Road Crescent near High Park. She is the landlord and head chef of "StarPups Coffee" an exclusive fine dining experience located right on her front lawn.

Every day Kaya puts out treats, water and sticks for local dogs to enjoy for free during their walks. Of course, the manager Molly Meatlog (Kaya's dog) always keeps an eye out on the cafe through the window.
