KONTAN.CO.ID - SYDNEY. Asian shares started cautiously on Monday as investors wait to see if U.S. earnings can justify sky-high valuations, while bond markets could be tested by what should be very strong readings for U.S. inflation and retail sales this week.
MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was off 0.05% in slow early trade. Tokyo's Nikkei edged up 0.1%, while South Korean stocks rose 0.2%.
Investors were anxious to see how shares in Alibaba Group Holding Ltd fared after China slapped a record 18 billion yuan ($2.75 billion) fine on the e-commerce giant.

SINGAPORE. Singapore's High Court on Monday approved an application to wind up collapsed oil trading firm Hin Leong Trading Pte Ltd, marking the end of what was once one of Asia's top oil traders, three sources familiar with the matter said.
Hin Leong, owned by Singaporean tycoon Lim Oon Kuin and his children, racked up some $4 billion in debt and entered court restructuring nearly a year ago.
The company had been seeking to restructure its debts after the oil price crash last year when Lim admitted in a court document to directing the firm not to disclose hundreds of millions of dollars in losses over several years.

KONTAN.CO.ID - SINGAPORE. Gold rebounded on Monday from a nine-month low hit last week, as bond yields retreated and the passage of a massive U.S. stimulus package boosted bullion's appeal as a hedge against inflation.
Spot gold rose 0.4% to $1,707.81 per ounce, after hitting its lowest since June 8 at $1,686.40 on Friday. U.S. gold futures climbed 0.4% to $1,704.90.
"The market probably sold a bit too much last week on higher yields and yields seem to be plateauing a little bit right now," said Stephen Innes, chief global market strategist at financial services firm Axi.

KONTAN.CO.ID - BEIJING. China’s February exports grew at a record annual pace from a year earlier when COVID-19 battered the world’s second-biggest economy, customs data showed on Sunday, while imports rose less sharply.
Exports in dollar terms skyrocketed by 154.9% in February compared with a year earlier, while imports gained 17.3% that month, the most since October 2018. Customs data did not include data for January alone.
In the January-February period, exports jumped 60.6% from a year earlier, when lockdowns to contain the pandemic paralysed the country’s economic activity. That exceeded the forecast of analysts in a Reuters poll for a 38.9% surge.

Oil strengthens on prospect of OPEC+ maintaining supply cuts, drop in US inventories

Oil strengthens on prospect of OPEC+ maintaining supply cuts, drop in US inventories

KONTAN.CO.ID -
SINGAPORE. Oil prices rose for a second straight session on Thursday, as the possibility that OPEC+ producers might decide against increasing output at a key meeting later in the day lent support, alongside a drop in U.S. fuel inventories.
Brent crude futures added 61 cents, or 1%, to $64.68 a barrel, as of 0428 GMT, after climbing more than 2% on Wednesday. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures gained 28 cents, or 0.5% to $61.56 a barrel.
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allies, together called OPEC+, are considering rolling over production cuts into April instead of raising output, as a recovery in oil demand remains fragile due to the coronavirus crisis, three OPEC+ sources told Reuters.

KONTAN.CO.ID - MANILA. The Philippines' Monde Nissin Corp, maker of ubiquitous Lucky Me! instant noodles, on Thursday filed for an up to 63 billion peso ($1.3 billion) initial public offering (IPO), in what is set to be the country's largest-ever listing.
The filing comes as the Philippines, a historical laggard in Southeast Asia in terms of fundraising and market activity, is shaping up to be the region's biggest IPO market this year.
The owner of meat alternative Quorn is seeking regulatory approval to sell as many as 3.6 billion primary shares at a maximum price of 17.50 pesos ($0.3605) each, regulatory filing documents showed. It can sell up to 540 million more shares through an over-allotment option.

KONTAN.CO.ID -
JAKARTA. Indonesia plans to inject one million people per day with the coronavirus vaccine and 40 million people by June as part of a mass vaccination drive targetting 181.5 million people, President Joko Widodo said on Thursday.
The Southeast Asian country's COVID-19 caseload is among the worst in Asia, with more than 1.36 million infections and 36,800 deaths, although new cases have dropped significantly in the past month.
The government began injecting medical workers, civil servants and service workers in January, and 2.28 million people have received at least an injection of China's Sinovac Biotech's COVID-19 vaccine, government data shows.
