Opener Janneman Malan smashed the fourth highest score in South Africa’s one-day international history as his swashbuckling 177 not out helped steer the tourists to a series-levelling 70-run victory over Ireland at Malahide, Dublin on Friday.
Malan put on 225 for the first wicket with the equally impressive Quinton de Kock (120 from 91 balls) as South Africa amassed 346 for four in their 50 overs, before bowling Ireland out for 276 in 47.1 overs of their reply.
Malan struck 16 fours and six sides in his 169-ball stay at the crease, falling 11 runs short of Gary Kirsten’s South Africa record of 188 not out against the United Arab Emirates in the 1996 Cricket World Cup.

Spirited Ireland eye history against South Africa as final ODI today

Daily Times
July 16, 2021
DUBLIN: Ireland are one win away from their biggest ODI achievement on home soil. Victory over South Africa in the third ODI will be the first time they take a series off a team ranked in the top eight, the first time they beat a top eight team in successive matches, and their first series win in their last six, since beating Zimbabwe in July 2019. It would also put them in third place on the World Cup Super League table, behind England and Bangladesh. Though Ireland will have played more games than anyone besides England, sitting in that spot will revive their hopes of automatic qualification for 2023. On the other side, South Africa can only go up into 10th spot, ahead of their next scheduled opponents, Netherlands and will know that if they don’t take all available points from this next game, qualification could become tricky. The World Cup Super League promised us context, and context it has delivered.

Proteas skipper Bavuma after shocking Ireland loss: 'We were totally outplayed'

Darren Stewart/Gallo Images
Proteas skipper
Temba Bavuma admitted they were outplayed after an embarrassing 43-run loss against Ireland in the second ODI on Tuesday.
The South Africans now stare a series defeat in the face ahead of Friday's third and final encounter, after the first ODI was abandoned due to rain.
Bavuma elected to field first with the Proteas bowling attack struggling to break partnerships as Irish skipper Andy Balbirnie scored his seventh ODI century.
Balbirnie led from the front, top-scoring with 102 off 117 deliveries, while Harry Tector also contributed 79 to push Ireland to a demanding total of 290 for 5.
The Proteas' bowling performance was average, but their fielding was horrific as the visitors dropped four vital catches that could've shortened Ireland's onslaught.
