Abuse of the furlough scheme could "be the biggest fraud in British history," according to the Chair of the COVID-19 Fraud Watch, David Clarke. Mr Clarke has made the claim after a report suggested £52 billion a year was being lost as a result of bogus claims. Rishi Sunak is preparing to present his budget to the nation on Wednesday, with the Government's furlough financial support scheme likely to be extended.

The Justice Secretary has been confronted over reports that inmates in UK prisons may receive priority in the Covid vaccination rollout ahead of key frontline workers. Mr Buckland was forced to defend the policy on LBC against Nick Ferrari with the radio host demanding to know why police officers, teachers and firefighters were not at the top of the list for a jab. It comes as the NHS is rapidly making its way through the vaccine priority list, with all over 50s set to be given an injection by April 15.

Belgium is a headquarters for both European Union institutions and large drug manufacturers. However, coronavirus vaccines made in the country are mainly being shipped abroad, often to the UK and Israel, despite Belgium suffering the same supply chain problems experienced across the EU. The "surreal" arrangement comes despite fears a big reduction in supplies in the first quarter of this year could hit the EU's ability to meet its target of vaccinating 70 percent of adults by this summer.

The Health Secretary was grilled on BBC Breakfast on Tuesday morning about Boris Johnson's recently announced timeline for the lifting of the UK lockdown. Host Charlie Stayt grilled Matt Hancock for details on how long the two-metre rule will remain in place. Mr Hancock insisted that some form of social distancing and mask-wearing may remain even after England starts to unlock on March 8. He added that many Britons may decide to maintain a distance from others on public transport for example as part of a new "social norm."
