JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post/ANN): Venture capital (VC) firms are bullish about investment growth in Indonesia and Southeast Asia in the medium term after seeing strong growth in start-up financing last year.
Indonesian VC investments grew 6.3 per cent year-on-year (yoy) to Rp 13.5 trillion (US$959.3 million) last year, Financial Services Authority (OJK) data shows, driven by the expansion of technology start-ups after countries imposed Covid-19 mobility restrictions in early 2020.
VC firms expect technology start-ups to continue growing this year and beyond as mobility restrictions in Southeast Asia spur the adoption of digital services for commerce, health, education and grocery shopping, among other areas.

A Belgian chocolatier has been crowned the world's best pastry chef by a jury of independent reporters, helping consolidate Belgium's reputation as a producer of top class chocolate.
Pierre Marcolini was given the award organized by World Pastry Stars, an Italian-based organization of chefs from traditional pastry and chocolate-making countries such as France and Switzerland, as well as Japan and beyond.
Known for his minimalist style, Marcolini's chocolates have become luxury gifts, with some boxes selling for more than 100 euros ($118.19) as he has sought to give a sophisticated edge to his confectionary, cakes, macaroons and jams.

INDONESIA's TOP 100 BRANDS: RANKING ANALYSIS
Despite the best efforts of Indonesia’s current president to rally his country to buy local, consumers in the archipelago nation continue to rank global brands more highly, according to our ranking of Indonesia's top 100 brands. While nearly a quarter (24) of our Top 100 are Indonesian brands, not one of them places inside the top 20.
On the surface, this may seem puzzling, since current President Jokowi (Joko Widodo) has made a point of wearing Nah Project sneakers instead of Nikes and drinking Kopi Kenangan instead of Starbucks in public, claiming local brands are just as good or better. “Every political candidate in regional elections is competing to be ‘more Indonesian’” one brand consultant told
