The S&P BSE closed at 65,995.63, up by 364.06 points or 0.55%. The broader Nifty50 closed at 19,653.50, gaining 107.75 points or 0.55%. Meanwhile, banking gauge Nifty Bank settled at 44,360.60, higher by 147.25 points or 0.55%.
While Nifty50 scaled a new high of 20,167.65 on the intraday basis before settling at 20,103.10, up by 33.10 points or 0.16%, S&P BSE Sensex climbed to 67,771.05.
Indian indices, S&P BSE Sensex and Nifty50, were up in opening trade, boosted by IT stocks. Sensex traded at 65,741, up 182 points (0.28%), while Nifty50 hovered around 19,473, up 59 points (0.31%). The Sensex rose by 803 points or 1.26% to 64,719, while the Nifty50 climbed 217 points or 1.14% to 19,189. The Nifty Bank also saw gains of nearly 1%. The positive performance was attributed to global data, strong foreign institutional investor (FII) buying, and progress in monsoon. The auto sector is expected to be in focus due to monthly sales data releases, and economic data locally and globally will influence market movements.
