parties coalitions, the democratic party coalition is very much like a brokerage party. various groups of policy demand hours, to use a political science term, trying to get something out of the government. each of the coalition partners are working with each other, understanding that. they're obviously negotiating and there's conflict but there's something substantive at the end of the day that's black voters want, latino voters want, civil rights groups wants, lgbtq people want. they want something concrete from the federal state. the republican coalition is very different. especially with trump it's much less of that kind of group of policy demand hours. there are policies people wind, but what the voters seem to want more than anything is for a candidate to reflect back on to them their sense of grievance. trump, because as you mentioned, he has this authentic grievance about him. he can do that. he's also a longtime celebrity,
