In true Oscars tradition, Youn was presented her best supporting trophy by last year's best supporting actor winner Brad Pitt on Sunday night. 
She emerged a favourite to win in the category only recently by bagging a number of precursor awards ahead of Oscars. She was nominated alongside Amanda Seyfried for "Mank", Maria Bakalova for "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm", Glenn Close for "Hillbilly Elegy", Olivia Colman for "The Father".

"Minari" actress Yuh-jung Youn is continuing to delight with her Oscar-nominated screen performance — and for her speeches at the award ceremonies. 
The 73-year-old South Korean star took best supporting actress at Sunday's British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs),  beating out Maria Bakalova ("Borat Subsequent Moviefilm"), Niamh Algar ("Calm With Horses"), Kosar Ali ("Rocks"), Dominique Fishback ("Judas and the Black Messiah") and Ashley Madekwe ("County Lines").

"Every award is meaningful but this one, especially recognized by British people [who are] known as very snobbish people, and they approved me as a good actor," Youn Yuh-Jung said in her BAFTA acceptance speech following her role in "Minari."

Korean Box Office: Wide Release 'Minari' Defeats 'Raya and the Last Dragon'

A notable launch for “Minari” lifted the South Koreabox office to its second highest weekend of 2021. The Korean-language American-made drama performed 80% higher than the weekend’s other significant new release Disney’s “Raya and the Last Dragon.”
Opening in first place, “Minari” clocked up $1.68 million over the weekend, according to data from the Korean Film Council’s KOBIS box office tracking service. That gave it a nearly 38% share of the national aggregate between Friday and Sunday.

Capitalizing on local press interest, especially for veteran actor Youn Yuh-jung, Korean distributor Pancinema had the Lee Isaac Chung-directed film play on 1,162 screens. It will hope to hold the wide release through anticipated awards nomination success in the U.S. over the upcoming two weeks.
