'I was certain it was Grace, and it was heartbreaking,' a conservationist who had been tracking Grace says.

Conservationists are trying to determine how a century-old turtle died, after the remains of Grace, the snapping turtle, were found 15 kilometres from its home in the Haliburton Highlands.

Turtles are more flexible than humans think — so don't give up hope just yet on Grace, the rural Ontario snapper that hasn't been spotted by its worried devotees in over a year, an Ottawa biologist says. 

Grace, a one-eyed snapping turtle in Haliburton, Ont., has been missing since 2021.
