The Delhi government is developing a new policy for cab and bike aggregators that aims to promote the use of electric vehicles (EVs) over compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles. The policy, based on the "polluter pays" principle, may waive licensing fees for electric taxis while imposing fees for CNG taxis.
Delhi Transport Minister, Kailash Gehlot, has suggested potential incentives for individuals interested in converting their old petrol or diesel vehicles into electric ones. He mentioned that the current electric vehicle policy will be extended for six months and a new policy is being developed that may include incentives for electric vehicle conversions. Retrofitting an old vehicle with an electric conversion kit involves removing the internal combustion engine and related systems, and installing an electric drivetrain.
Electric Vehicles: The department has also drawn a rough estimate of the expenditure to be borne on this count. For the first 100 kilometers, the state government will bear a monthly expenditure of INR 46,000 in the form of rent to the private agencies from where the car will be hired.
