Movie review: 'Cherry' is an intense, timely, terrifically acted art film


The Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, have been co-directing feature films and TV shows for a couple of decades. There have been multiple episodes of "Arrested Development" and "Community," along with an underappreciated good movie - "Welcome to Collinwood" - and a forgotten mediocre one - "You, Me and Dupree." Then came a couple of terrific big-budget hits ... smash hits: two Captain America movies and two Avengers movies.
In three of those four films, the Russos worked with Tom Holland, who had taken on and grown into the role of Spider-Man, playing him as a member of the Avengers' ensemble. But while Holland has continued on in a couple of gigantic-budget stand-alone Spider-Man films, the Russos have made something of a U-turn, budget-wise and style-wise, but not in quality.
