Active cases have risen to 1,828, and the death toll stands at 5,33,317. The country's recovery rate is 98.81%, with 4,44,69,931 individuals having recuperated from the disease. The case fatality rate is 1.19%. The health ministry's website indicates that 220.67 crore COVID vaccine doses have been administered in the country to date.Amid rising infection, the central government has issued an advisory to the state governments urging them to make adequate health arrangements. The Karnataka government has also mandated masks for individuals aged 60 and above, those with heart or kidney ailments, and those with cold symptoms due to concerns about the JN.1 subvariant. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao disclosed the decision following the detection of this variant in Kerala. Preparations in hospitals are underway, with heightened vigilance in border districts like Kodagu, Mangaluru, and Chamarajanagar, as per the guidelines discussed in technical advisory committee meetings. The Union health ministry has also urged states to stay vigilant as Covid cases surge in Kerala. Kerala has experienced a significant increase in daily cases, nearly tripling in a week, with 10 deaths reported from December 1 to 17. The emergence of the JN.1 sub-variant in a 79-year-old woman adds to concerns. On December 16, Kerala recorded 302 new cases and four deaths, marking the highest in the recent outbreak, compared to 109 cases on December 10.

COVID-19 Sub Variant JN.1 Live News: No need to worry, says Kerala Health Minister on JN.1 subvariant; K'taka advises caution

COVID-19 Sub Variant JN.1 Live Latest News Updates: After the identification of a case of the JN.1 subvariant of COVID-19 in Kerala, State Health Minister Veena George reassured the public on Sunday that there is no need for concern. She emphasized that the detected subvariant had been previously identified in Indians tested at the Singapore airport a few months ago, and Kerala's robust health system facilitated its detection through genomic sequencing. Minister George urged people to stay vigilant, stating that ongoing monitoring is in place, especially for individuals with comorbidities. Simultaneously, the Union Ministry of Health has taken preparatory measures following the identification of the JN.1 subvariant, conducting a mock drill across health facilities to assess public health and hospital readiness. This preparedness exercise, overseen by district collectors, started on December 13 and is set to conclude by December 18. The Union Ministry of Health maintains close communication with the State Department of Health in Kerala and monitors various points of entry. While the majority of reported cases in Kerala are clinically mild, health authorities stress the importance of ongoing vigilance and readiness to effectively manage the evolving situation related to COVID-19 variants. The India SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), a network of genomic laboratories, actively monitors the genomic aspects of COVID-19 in India.

compared to other illnesses, influenza and a serious influenza year, and they give you no notice and say we are not going to have school fridays and all of next week is canceled. and now i know the detroit teacher scene is pushing to extend this. disclosures and online learning beyond december i am understanding. >> i don't know a lot about the beyond december. the last year they would not give us any warning. but the definition of insanity is to try the same thing twice and expect different results. so thee and not taking any chances. not taking any risks. maybe they really are going to go back after december because last year like i said where the lockdowns dragged on and on, week after week, i actually changed my son's school district after the friday lockdown news came. became concerned about how reliable i am actually going to look to my employer when i could have to request time off at the drop of a dime.
