On Monday, Londoners were taking particular advantage of the city’s 17 spray pads. “They are extremely busy,” Lynn Loubert, city manager of aquatics, arenas and parks operations, said. “We had a very warm summer to date and they’re being very well used.” Spray pads are also very popular with adults, particularly joggers and cyclists, who use them as a temporary respite from the heat, Loubert said. Delayed by the province’s three-step COVID-19 reopening framework, wading pools opened Monday, although they aren’t as popular as spray pads, Loubert said. “Springbank wading pool is always our busiest and that has proven to be the case again (Monday),” she said. ....

On Friday an estimated 150 people gathered at the Victoria park rink. When the City heard about the gathering they responded immediately. “As soon as we were aware that there was an issue, we forwarded our supervisors to the site to assist in evacuating and clearing the rink and we closed it for the remainder of the evening.” Said the City’s Division Manager of Parks and Recreation Lynn Loubert. Although the city had staff onsite they required additional support to close the rink down for the night. Multiple videos of the packed arena were posted on Twitter on Friday night.
