Reports and dealers claim Mahindra Thar's waiting period ranges between five months to eight months based on the engine, transmission, and variant combination buyers opt for.

The new-gen Mahindra Thar SUV has received quite a bit of orders in India, the home-grown automaker has shared. While the SUV's popularity has been for everyone to see, Mahindra & Mahindra announced during a media interaction during the FY2021 Q3 earning call that the Thar SUV has racked up more than 39,000 bookings in India since its launch here, i.e. 2 October, 2020. The company further noted the SUV received more than 6,000 bookings last month alone. On an average, it receives about 200-250 Mahindra Thar bookings in India every day. Quite the hit it has proven to be, eh?

It’s day 1 and we’ll be heading from Udaipur to Jodhpur, covering a distance of around 350km. A quick flag-off and socially distanced photoshoot later, it was time for me to experience Mahindra's off roader for the first time! I needed some getting used to. I was driving the diesel-automatic with the hardtop which had pretty sharp brakes. Gauging its width was also an initial problem but after 10 minutes, I was confident enough.
Our first stop was at Shikarbadi fort, a former hunting resort of the Royal family of Mewar. The property is huge and houses its own stable, a football field and a mini air strip capable of landing small six-seater planes! It’s now converted into a 3-star hotel after the Zamindari act came into place in 1971.

Mahindra & Mahindra officially launched the next-generation Mahindra Thar in India on October 2, 2020. Since then, the updated version of the SUV has received a great response from the domestic market. The demand is so high that it surpassed 20,000 bookings milestone in just one month of launch. Adding another feature to the cap, the off-roader SUV bagged over 6,500 bookings in December 2020 despite a long waiting period. Mahindra says that over 50 per cent bookings received are for the LX automatic variant.

The Thar’s latest prices range between Rs 12.10 lakh and Rs 14.15 lakh.
Customers booking the Thar from January 08 onwards need to pay the price at delivery. So it seems like there could be a second price hike in the pipeline as well.
Thar currently commands a waiting period of up to 9 months.
It’s offered with 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines.
Thar had secured four stars in Global NCAP crash test.
The Mahindra Thar has received its first ever price hike since its launch on October 2. The latest prices range between Rs 12.10 lakh and Rs 14.15 lakh (ex-showroom). These updated prices will be applicable for bookings made between December 01, 2020 and January 08, 2021. Customers who booked the SUV till November 2020 will have to pay the launch prices.
