The Edo State Police Command says it has begun investigation into an alleged professional misconduct, abuse of office and extortion of millions of Naira from a local petroleum businesswoman by a senior officer and his team members. The command was reacting to a petition sent by the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC), a civic group, accusing the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abutu Yaro of releasing suspects involved in the stealing and adulteration of petroleum products in Benin City without investigation.
The Ekiti State Government has announced the withdrawal and discontinuance of criminal charges against the student activist and #EndSARS protester, Moyinoluwa Olowoyo Victor. Moyinoluwa was arrested and detained alongside some other protesters in October 2020. SaharaReporters in 2021 reported that according to a court document it had obtained, the Ekiti State government as the complainant, alleged that Moyinoluwa conspired to commit an offence of malicious damage on October 18, 2020.
Justice Mary Itsueli of Benin High Court on Thursday ordered the remand of Frank Irabor, Secretary to Benin Traditional Council and six others in prison custody for allegedly engaging in the illegal demolition of houses. The accused persons appeared in court on six counts bordering on the forceful takeover of land and illegal demolition of buildings at Ulegun village in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo. The accused persons are Chief Oko-Oboh, Aghavbere Osawemwrnguan, Abel Oko Oboh, Tuesday Atagamene, Okechukwu Okeke and Ode Ikoko.
