p Night curfew implementation in Mangaluru City on Saturday br /p
MANGALURU: The Mangaluru city police have seized nearly 68 vehicles, including 64 two-wheelers, for violating the night curfew imposed by the government on Saturday.
The police had set up 42 checkpoints across the city, and motorists were stopped at prominent junctions, and allowed to go only after producing valid documents after 10 pm. The clamping of night curfew in the city witnessed traffic snarls at many places, and commotion prevailed at a few places, when people were not allowed to move after 10pm.
While many questioned the police for not allowing them to return to their homes, those working on night shifts expressed their anger, when they were stopped even after showing their identity cards.

MANGALURU: A 12-year-old boy was found dead 500 metres from his house in Mangaluru on Sunday morning, about 10 hours after he left home saying he wanted to meet a friend. Police suspect the boy may have been a victim of the now-banned PUBG videogame.
Police have picked up a 17-year-old boy for questioning in the case. It is suspected that the boys were playing the game together after an accidental meeting at a mobile store in Mangaluru three months ago. It could not be confirmed if the boys were playing PUBG or one of its many variants flooding the cyberspace after the original game was proscribed last year.

Karnataka: Gram panchayat builds parallel road to evade NH toll, wins fight | Mangaluru News

Parallel road being created by the gram panchayat to avoid toll payment at Hejmady NH tollgate in Udupi district.
UDUPI: A resolution adopted by the Hejmady gram panchayat has forced the National Highway tollgate authorities to allow free movement for all cars and buses to the village.
When the contractor – Navayuga Udupi Tollway Private Limited (NUTPL), stopped the free movement of all vehicles on the Hejmady NH tollgate, the 21-member gram panchayat headed by president Pranesh Hejmadi resolved to build a new parallel road to the village and thereby avoid toll payment.
Accordingly, a new road parallel to the National Highway was built on March 30, so that all vehicles to Hejmady and Kodi villages can move without entering the tollgate. Soon after the development, the toll contractors agreed to allow free movement of all vehicles registered in the name of Hejmady villagers.
