Philipose Mar Chrysostom, former head of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church and the longest-serving bishop in India, died of age-related ailments on Wednesday, a church spokesperson said. He was 104.
Mar Chrysostom had been discharged from a medical college hospital in Thiruvalla on Tuesday. He breathed his last at a private hospital in Kumbanad near Thiruvalla at 1.15am, the spokesperson said.
Mar Chrysostom had celebrated his 104th birthday a week ago on April 27 while undergoing treatment at Medical College Hospital. His funeral will be held on Thursday. 
A religious dignitary with a genuine humanitarian outlook and global vision, Mar Chrysostom was awarded the Padma Bhushan by President Ram Nath Kovind in 2018.

Often called the priest of wit and wisdom, Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom served as a bishop for nearly 68 years, which is a record in the Indian church. He was honoured with the nation's third-highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan in 2018.
One of the oldest religious leaders in India, Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom, the former head of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church in Kerala, has passed away. He breathed his last at the age of 104 on Wednesday.
Mar Chrysostom was reportedly unwell and admitted to a private hospital last week. His funeral will be held on Thursday.

THIRUVALLA: Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan, the emeritus Metropolitan of the Malankara Marthoma Syrian Church passed away at Kumbanad Fellowship Hospital on Wednesday. The 104 year old Metropolitan was the senior most metropolitan of any Christian denomination in the world and the country had honoured him with Padma Bhushan award in 2018.
Mar Chrysostom Valiya Matropolitan had celebrated his birthday on April 27 at a private medical college at Tiruvalla. He was admitted to the hospital following urinary infection and had tested Covid positive. However he later tested negative and was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday. He was shifted shifted to the Fellowship Mission hospital at Kumbanadu later. However, his health deteriorated around midnight and he breathed his last at 1.15 am.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 ― Bishop Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan has passed away at age 104.
Early this morning (May 5), many Mar Thoma Malaysians were met with the news that His Grace the Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan, a venerable bishop of the Mar Thoma Syrian Christian Church, had passed away at the Fellowship Mission Hospital in Kumbanad, in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, India. He had just celebrated his 104th birthday on April 27, and was regarded as one of the world’s oldest bishops.

New Delhi, May 5 : Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday condoled the death of Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan, the emeritus Metropolitan of the Malankara Marthoma Syrian Church.
"My heartfelt condolences for the passing of His Grace the Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan Thirumeni. His kindness received love and affection from all communities. He will be fondly remembered," the Congress MP from Kerala's Wayanad said in a tweet.
