The University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine is launching a new effort to attract more students of color to its program. The university is expanding a summer program that prepares students for med school, and is partnering with five Historically Black Colleges and Universities to attract participants. The Biden administration is still broadening access to Pfizer’s Paxlovid, an antiviral pill that combats COVID-19. The drug significantly reduces serious symptoms, hospitalizations and deaths, especially for people who have risk factors like heart disease. But independent pharmacies in the region still face barriers in getting it into their stores.
