Alix Klineman defeated Germany in the women’s quarterfinals on Tuesday, becoming the last woman standing with Olympic medals to her name.
The victory underscored the strength of the United States, who along with Brazil have earned the most medals from the sport since its debut at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
On Tuesday, Ross played a pivotal role in the 44-minute, 21-19, 21-19 sweep of Germany’s
Laura Ludwig, a Rio gold medalist, and partner

TOKYO — Before Athing Mu introduced herself to the world at the Tokyo Games, the public-address announcer at Olympic Stadium butchered her name.
It was Friday, before her opening round heat of the women’s 800 meters, and Mu did not hide her dismay.
“I’m sure everyone saw my face,” said Mu, a 19-year-old American whose name is pronounced “Ah-THING Moe.”
“I don’t even know what he said, but it was terrible. Like, where do you even get that from?”
Mu said all this with a charming, disarming smile — she was used to people getting her name wrong, she said, but it also seemed clear that she wanted some respect. So she went out and made sure to earn it as an Olympic gold medalist.

Der Schwede Armand Duplantis ist Olympiasieger im Stabhochsprung. Der 21 Jahre alte Weltrekordler flog am Dienstag in Tokio ohne Fehlversuch über 6,02 Meter und holte sich seine erste Goldmedaille. Duplantis scheiterte erst knapp, als er versuchte seine eigene Bestmarke von 6,18 Metern um einen Zentimeter zu verbessern. Silber sicherte sich der US-Amerikaner Christopher Nilsen (5,97) vor Rio-Olympiasieger Thiago Braz aus Brasilien (5,87).
