As of the end of January, 6 344 public servants in national and provincial departments across the country were "actively" on suspension with full pay.
During the 2019-20 financial year, a whopping R2.4 billion (R2.418.531.658.20) was spent on the salaries of suspended officials.
Suspended public servants are now costing the state billions.
By January 2021, 6 344 public servants across the country were "actively" on suspension with full pay pending the finalisation of their disciplinary cases.
Salary expenditure for suspended officials for the current 2020-21 financial year amounted to R2 billion (R2.080.977.700.20) by the end of January.
