JOHOR BARU: The director of a frozen food supply company implicated in the meat cartel scandal, together with its manager and accountant, have pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to 16 charges of money laundering amounting to more than RM13mil between October 2018 and December last year.

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested 36 people in several states over its investigation into the meat cartel that makes fake halal labels and certificates.
Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the suspects, mostly directors and managers of various companies, were arrested during Ops Kartel Daging that was carried out last Friday involving 19 companies in six states.
“The suspects, aged between 28 and 67, were arrested in Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak, Penang and Kedah.
“They have been raking in profits of between RM1mil and RM52mil a year from their criminal activities from 2018 to 2020, ” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters here yesterday.

JOHOR BARU: A director and a manager of a frozen food company in Senai have been charged at the Sessions Court here in connection with the meat cartel scandal.
The accused, company director Yong Chee Keong, 40, and manager Chong Kim Kuang, 48, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them before judge Ahmad Fuad Othman.
Yong, together with another company director who is still at large, was slapped with seven charges.

MACC nabs three more Maqis officers in JB over meat cartel scandal


JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained three more Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) enforcement officers over the meat cartel scandal.
The trio, aged from 40 to 55, were arrested at the Johor MACC headquarters at around 7pm on Monday (Jan 18).
The suspects were detained for alleged bribery pertaining to import of frozen meat which did not receive the Veterinary Department's approval.
They are being remanded for five days until Jan 23 to help with the investigations under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2019.
It is learnt that the Maqis officers were stationed at Tanjung Pelepas Port, Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex and in Muar prior to their arrest.

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 — Frozen meat supplier Raihanah Cold Storage Sdn Bhd is mulling a RM50 million lawsuit against Umno blogger Datuk Zaharin Mohd Yasin for defamation over a Facebook post linking the company’s complicity in the alleged smuggling of ‘non-halal’ meat.
Lawyer Datuk Mohd Haaziq Pillay, who represented the company, said the RM50 million lawsuit involved allegations made by Zaharin in a Facebook post, in which the accompanying caption of the post appeared to suggest that the company and his clients were involved in selling meat which is “haram” under Islamic principles.
