Meat shops in Delhi should be shut during the "auspicious period of Navratri devoted to Goddess Durga", the South Delhi Municipal Corporation said Monday, adding that devotees during these nine days abstain from use of non-vegetarian food.
Uttar Pradesh's additional chief secretary (information) Navneet Sehgal, however, clarified to news agency PTI that the government has not issued any orders banning the sale of meat.
"During Navratra, selling of meat will not be allowed in the open (across Ghaziabad) while it is banned (completely) near temples and in the bylanes where temples are located," Ghaziabad Mayor said.
