Teachers should discuss Invasion Day with kids

Schools, along with sporting clubs, councils and other public organisations, should take a progressive stance on social issues.
I don't have a problem with AFL players kneeling in support of racism, Cricket Australia removing Australia Day branding or Brighton Grammar teachers mentioning Invasion Day in assembly.
They're token gestures, but they matter because institutions like this are important leaders in bringing about vital social change.

They have a role to play in helping to shape impressionable young people by modelling anti-discriminatory attitudes.
It's important that young sports fans, as well as school kids, are given a thorough grounding in the need to fight against racism and sexism.

Brighton Grammar deputy headmaster told students Australia Day was 'Invasion Day'

An elite Melbourne boys' private school has sparked outrage after its deputy principal told students that Australia Day is 'Invasion Day' and isn't a date that should be celebrated.
Meg Adem from Brighton Grammar made the comments during an assembly with hundreds of pupils last week on their first day back at school.
Dozens of students at the $32,000-per-year school reportedly 'gasped' at Ms Adem calling January 26 'Invasion Day'.
'It was really awkward when we were told not to celebrate Australia Day,' a teenage student at the school told The Herald Sun.
