MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – It’s been a week filled with heavy hearts in the Myrtle Beach area, after losing a veteran Horry County police officer and a former mayor.
The city of Myrtle Beach has received permission to lower flags at half-staff beginning Wednesday for LCpl. Melton Gore.

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - The Grand Strand community paid their respects to LCpl. Melton Gore, a veteran Horry County police officer who was killed in the line of duty.
Gore died last week after he was hit by a car while picking up debris along Highway 22, according to officials.
The Horry County Police Department said it’s a loss that has been felt across the community, with many remembering Gore as a great man who was dedicated to his job and helping others.

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - The Horry County Police Department has announced details of a procession for one of their own who died in the line of duty.
HCPD announced Saturday that an escort for Lance Cpl. Melton “Fox” Gore will begin at 7 a.m. Sunday from the M.L. Brown Public Safety Building in Conway. The procession route to MUSC in Charleston will be going through N. Main Street, Highway 701 South, Highway 17 South through Georgetown before arriving at MUSC.

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - Horry County police officer Melton Gore, known by many as Fox, frequently helped the group Beautify Carolina Forest as part of his duties as an officer.
Beautify Carolina Forest is a group of volunteers that maintains the landscaping around the Carolina Forest area. A lot of their work requires them to work in the medians of Carolina Forest Boulevard, which can be dangerous as cars come close to them.

ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - “A bad dream.”
That’s how the Atlantic Beach Police Chief Quentin Robinson is describing the day he lost his good friend and fellow brother in blue, Horry County Police Lance Cpl. Melton Gore.
Officials say Gore was struck and killed Tuesday night along Highway 22 while picking up debris along the roadway. He served as an environmental officer with HCPD for over 20 years.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - In the first 12 days of 2021, the Grand Strand and Pee Dee lost three law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
The first death came on New Year’s Day when Sgt. Gordon Best with the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety lost control of his patrol car on the wet roadways of U.S. 17 and crashed into a utility pole. He died on scene.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel will be lit in blue Wednesday night in honor of an Horry County officer who was killed in the line of duty.
Horry County Police LCpl. Melton Gore was killed Tuesday night when he was hit by a car while removing debris from the roadway near the intersection of Highway 22 and Highway 31, according to authorities.

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– A Horry County police officer was killed in the line of duty Tuesday night. Investigators say 57-year-old Melton Gore was picking up debris on Highway 22 when he was hit by a car.
Officials said that the officer had served the department for more than 20 years in the Environmental Service Unit.
The Horry County Police Department took to Twitter to send condolences out to Officer Gore’s family and friends, while also asking members of the public to keep the department in their thoughts and prayers as they continue to mourn one of their own.
